Are You Listening To God?

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
Luke 6:46‭-‬49 NIV

We are in a season where we all want to hear from God about the things we are required to do in this decade. We are all wanting to hear from God about this new season of our lives but are we listening?

We pray to God for a word but we don’t do want to listen when we asked to do something by him. Are we listening to His request and Him or are we hearing what we want to hear?

There are good benefits to listening to God. If we listen to God and all he says and asks of us then we are guaranteed a firm foundation in our lives, just like a house that is a built on a solid, laid foundation. When we’re built on this kind of foundation then whatever the storm, we’ll be able to withstand it.

But what if you aren’t listening or not listening accurately. The problem with us as Christians is that we’ll fast and pray for a word from God and when that word comes but it isnt what we want to hear or it comes with a request before the word can be fulfilled, we disregard it and then you wonder why your marriage is failing, why your business is not succeeding, why you health is declining, why your kids don’t listen to you, it’s because you chose not to listen to the word God gave you because it came with a request in order to be fulfilled or it wasn’t what you “expected”. Honey, you are on Earth to fulfill a purpose over your life and that don’t mean just getting saved and going to church and expecting blessings, sometimes you got to get your hands dirty for the Kingdom.

I don’t want you to end up like a house without a foundation, all shaky and able to withstand the storm.

The storm will never be easy and that is why you need a firm foundation and that means you have to listen to God! Even if it comes with a request.
