Topic: Dealing with/ Overcoming Depression…
Depression is a real thing and it happens to anyone. No matter the age and it is one the deadliest things one can be faced with because with it comes Suicidal thoughts then Suicide.
Yes, it’s a really tough topic to discuss cause it’s sensitive but we have to talk about it.
So I was depressed at age 14 and I suffered with it in silence. I dealt with it by cutting myself, shaming myself and hating myself and forgot about the one person who cares most about me and the one person who peace is eternal.
See, When I was depressed, I neglected Jesus. The Creator. I erased the thought of him from my mind because I associated him with every other person who I felt like didn’t get it, wouldn’t listen, wouldn’t care and didn’t love me….
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
You see, what I forgot was the fact that Jesus was not like everyone else. He did love me, care for me, was there for me, I mean, no one else would have died for me to be forgiven and saved like He did. I forgot that He was there waiting for me to allow Him to take my pain and give me rest.
The first step in ensuring we deal with and overcome depression is Jesus.
By that I mean remember who He is and Embrace His presence in your life. Spend time with Him and whenever you feel the pain and want to act on it by hurting yourself, just think about Jesus. Start by thinking about Him, what He has done for you, talk to Him and express your pain to Him. Let Him Know. There’s nothing more that God wants than for us to feel free talking to Him openly about everything because then He knows we Trust Him with our lives fully.
The Second step is getting help.
Talking to someone could be the easiest start. Counseling. We ought to realise that God gave people certain abilities so that when we need them, we don’t suffer looking for them. Get someone to help you get to the root of your pain then deal with it and then build you into someone else outside the depression.
If we can only realise those two things, we are moving closer to securing our purpose, fulfilling it and eventually securing tbe crown that God has for us in Heaven as His children.
