Blog Series: Post#2
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:31-32 NIV
Growing up being bullied, being molested and feeling unloved in so many aspects of my life, I developed a heart of anger. I mean all I was, was a ball of anger, hurt and bitterness.
I had lost all love for anything. I didn’t know how to trust people anymore. I had even given up on prayer because the hurt never stopped.
The problen with this is that once we fill our hearts with the pain and anger, we leave no room for God to do His work.
You see, when I found out about my dad having a child, I was hurt for many reasons. I mean, how can you hide a child for so long and not expect it to slip, that’s what happens when you attend functions with family members that follow your daughter on Facebook.
Anyways, I had developed a sense of hatred towards him and I had trained my heart to not forgive him …
I know, it’s not right because after all, he’s my father.
But recently God showed me that if I don’t find it in my heart of hearts to forgive him and my bullies and molestor then I won’t achieve the purpose He wants me to achieve.
As God’s vessels, we need to realise that even the most painful monents need to be dealt with even though we try to hide fron them. That’s why Jesus is our comforter and counsellor. We need to realize that things like unforgiveness delay us in our journey with God. God will provide the peace you require only if we take the first step.
I’m not saying organise sessions with this person but you need to forgive them in your heart because the unforgiveness in our hearts speaks louder than the literal not speaking to one another.
We also need to seek God’s word for guidance on how to forgive because we are unable to do it on our own because of the flesh but if we can ask the Spirit of God to assist us, we’ll see the change.
Remember forgiving someone else is not only for them but it is for you to be able to move on and fulfill God’s purpose for you life in it’s fullness. After all, we seek to secure God’s crown of righteousness and we aren’t able to if we don’t forgive as Christ forgave.
There are times when I find it hard to forgive____________( insert names). I need you to pour out your Spirit in my life so that I am able to forgive those who have hurt me fully and so that I can be able to experience you in all your fullness. Thank you for forgiving me on the cross because if you had not done it for me, I wouldn’t be here. I need your help because you are the only who is able to help me forgive and give me peace. It is so and so it is. Amen
