Based on 1 Samuel 17.
The story of David and Goliath is one one that many of us know even from the days of sunday school and been taught a lot on but 1 more addition to those lessons wouldn’t hurt, right?
David was just a young shepherd boy ,who looked after his father’s sheep during the day, whom God had prepared for a battle like this before-hand with no one there to witness it. God ensured that David could kill the lion and the bear before he could kill Goliath.
You see, you may not recognise it now but maybe you’re facing your lion or bear and God is preparing you for your Goliath. God is making you stronger than your struggle before you even see the struggle.
When God had given David the courage to tell King Saul to let him take on Goliath, He knew that he was ready/ had been made ready to fight this Giant/Struggle/Battle.
Even though David was a small boy, God had prepared him enough to fight this giant. You see, when God is done with the preparation phase, he lets you go into the battlefield with the confidence that you’re stronger than the struggle.
No matter how big it is or how difficult it looks, God will have prepared you enough to stand before the struggle and defeat it.
It is with no doubt that people probably thought David was crazy for putting himself in harm’s way like that. They probably laughed at him, gossiped about him, ridiculed him and/or teased him because they thought that David was going to be defeated. So now I say to you that, don’t be shocked and give up when you become a laughing stock for facing your giant/struggle head on instead of worrying over it like the others, thing is that they did not see when God was preparing you with the lion and bear so no matter who laughs or ridicules, telling the others that you can’t do it, you won’t make it, you will die, you will fail, what matters is that God has made, not is going to make you but has already made you stronger than the struggle they’re laughing at you for taking on.
Okay, can we touch a little on the armor King Saul made David wear?
We need to rescue and educate him because maybe he was unaware that David had already put on the armor of God. David did not need all that heavy metal weighing him down, he had something stronger. What King Saul didn’t not recognise is that David already had his belt of truth buckled around his waist, his breastplate of righteousness, his feet were fitted with readiness that came from the gospel of peace, his shield of faith and to seal it off, he had his helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. ( Ephesuans 6: 14-17)
My question to you now is, which armor do you have on? What are you facing your struggle/giant with?
We don’t need the armor of sangomas, traditional healers, fortune tellers, incense or whatever it may be, we only need the armor of God. Only the armor of God. Mix and match doesn’t work in the kingdom of God, just saying.
Now finally, like David, we need our stone. Yes, he had 5 but only needed the one. You don’t even need to prepare your stone, he’s been prepared. All you need to do is pick it up and walk. Now as you walk, you remind yourself of who this stone is cause it isn’t any regular stone, we’re talking about the Cornerstone, Rock of Ages, the Great I Am, the One who was and is and still is to come. Hold your stone with no shame because the power bestowed in the stone/rock you hold, is the one carrying the very power that enables you to be stronger than the struggle and greater than the giant, the power of God.
Now, before I end off, I need you to know that because this stone is a one of a kind stone, indescribable in all it’s ways, that anything that comes in contact with it, will bow before it. That at the mention of this stone that is Jesus, every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10 ) and isn’t that what happened with Goliath when he fell face forward after being struck by the stone on his forehead.
All I was here to say to you is that God is preparing you for your Goliath so that when you get there, you need no other armor but His and no other rock but Him. I am here to remind you that , if you are already facing Goliath, you are stronger.
Oh and by the way, when you face your Goliath/ struggle, quote 1 Samuel 17:47 which says:
“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord Saves, for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give all of you into our hands”
